Statement from AIG
From The Story November 6, 2006
Bud Meredith was a civilian truck driver in Iraq. We received this statement from his insurance company AIG, the insurance carrier for Kellogg, Brown & Root, a subsidiary of Haliburton.
"The vast majority of our Defense Base Act workers' compensation claims - much more than 90% - are paid when the appropriate documentation is received. This is essentially in line with the rate of payment on domestic workers' comp claims for lost-time benefits. Some cases unfortunately take longer to investigate than others because of documentation issues, but the vast majority of them are paid, once those issues are resolved. When a DBA claim can't be accepted promptly, we consistently follow the resolution process set forth by the federal government. AIG WorldSource has a strong history of being highly responsive to our customers and claimants and paying these claims whenever compensable. However, it is our policy to respect the privacy of our customers and claimants and not discuss the specifics of individual claims with the media."
