Dick Gordon traveled to McCain Correctional Hospital in Raeford, NC, to speak with several of the aging inmates. The four men he interviewed have a variety of ideas about what should happen to them in "the system" as they age.

Marion Crawford

Marion-Crawford-crop.jpgMarion Crawford was sentenced to death for the murder and sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl. That was 46 years ago. Marion recently had a stroke that affects his speech and confines him to a wheelchair. He's in his early seventies.

Joe Wesley Hunt

Joe-Hunt-crop.jpgJoe Wesley Hunt did his first time almost 40 years ago for breaking and entering. Then in 1976 he raped a teenager at gunpoint. When he was free again, her murdered a woman and then drove to the river where he threw the body in. Joe Wesley Hunt is now in his mid-sixties. He'll likely die in prison.

James Weldon

James-Weldon-crop.jpgJames Weldon was drunk when he burned down his home in an attempt to kill his wife. His wife survived. James is now 63. He has one year left in his sentence. He recently learned that he's critically ill with cancer. He's not sure how long he has to live.

Harold Watkins

Harold-Watkins-crop.jpg35 years ago, Harold Watkins used a shotgun to kill a man outside Pott's Pool Hall in Rockingham, NC. Harold is only 57, but in prison, that puts him in the category of elderly - people behind bars often don't live as long as others outside.
