- Dick Gordon spoke with Scott and Tiffany Smiley on August 29, 2007. Scott was named 2007 Soldier of the Year by the Army Times. In April 2005, Scott was wounded by a suicide bomb in Iraq. He later learned he was permanently blinded. Below is a photo of Scott and Tiffany now (Scott uses prosthetic eyes) and a photo of the couple at West Point in 2004, before Scott went to Iraq.

After Sally lost her son, Peter, in the World Trade Center attacks, she started a program to help educate young Afghan women. Soraya is one of the young women she has helped. - Dick Gordon spoke with Cathy Wilkerson on November 1, 2007. Cathy was an anti-war activist in the 1960s. As the Vietnam War continued, she became convinced that violence was a legitimate form of protest and joined Weatherman, a militant group that was attracting many angry young people. On March 6, 1970, Cathy was with 4 others in a New York City townhouse when a bomb they were building exploded accidentally. Cathy was one of two who survived. She spent years in hiding, wanted by the FBI. In 1980, she turned herself in.

- Dick Gordon spoke with Maryanne Kamau and her cousin, Peter Kamau Waweru, on January 23, 2008. When fighting broke out on their farm in western Kenya, two members of the family were killed, Peter's brother Patrick, and his nephew, Stephen. The family returned to the farm for the burial on January 15. The woman holding the photograph is Stephen's mother, Maryanne's sister.

- Dick Gordon spoke with Marge West on February 25 about how coal bed methane extraction had transformed her ranch in Wyoming. This method of natural gas extraction draws water out from underground aquifers. Sometimes the water is effectively treated or contained in reservoirs. On Marge's ranch, the water flooded Spotted Horse Creek, ruined hay fields, and destroyed an old stand of cottonwood trees.
