This painting was inspired by the image of Beverly's mother and sister hanging clothes outside on a cold, winter day. "I thought it was like this ritual that they were totally enjoying this act of hanging out clothes. It was something that was really sort of poignant. And to me the clothes line has these negative connotations of just being poor."
