A Witness to Animal Abuse

photo: Mercy for Animals

An Iowa egg hatchery is under investigation by an egg farming cooperative due to allegations of abuse at one of its facilities. The allegations surfaced earlier this month, after an undercover investigator released videotaped footage of chicks being mutilated, thrown and scalded alive. Male chicks were ground up alive. Today, Dick Gordon talks with the undercover investigator in that case. "James" tells Dick that in order to blend in when he's on a job, he often has to participate with other workers when animals are being abused or killed. He's passionate about his job, but James says there are few perks to leading a double life.

Note: We agreed to not use James' real name because it could affect his work.

Learn about a group James works with, Mercy for Animals

Contact Us

Relative Rabbis

Rabbi Rebecca Schorr and Rabbi Stephen Einstein

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, has a special meaning for Rebecca Schorr and her father Stephen Einstein. As far as they know, they're the first father-daughter duo working together as rabbis in the same synagogue.

Rebecca didn't grow up wanting to follow in her father's footsteps - she wanted to be on Broadway. But when her faith conflicted with her career goals, she chose to follow her faith. Rebecca and Stephen talk with Dick about becoming rabbis, and the unexpected joys and challenges of working as a father-daughter team. This show originally aired on October 1, 2008.

Learn about their synagogue

Contact Us
