Faizaan Peerzada is a painter and puppeteer in Lahore, Pakistan -- a city that until recently has been peaceful. But even in Pakistan's cultural capital, Faizaan says he's seeing signs of Islamic extremism. He says people are afraid to gather at events, businesses are hesitant to sponsor the arts, and religious extremists are working to censor artistic expression. Late last year extremists bombed the international arts festival that Faizaan organized, and recently someone burned his museum cafe to the ground.
Faizaan talks with Dick Gordon about preserving the city's artistic legacy and how the arts can help unite moderates to fight Islamic extremism.

PROJECT MATCH FINDS A MATCH?

A few weeks ago, Dick spoke with Rick Clark. Rick was laid off from his job at IBM. At the layoff meeting his manager alerted him to an IBM program called Project Match. Rick could, on his own dime, move to a developing country to do his job. Rick said he was insulted by the offer and didn’t know anyone who had accepted it.
Scott Gardner heard that conversation on the radio and wrote in to tell his story. Scott was also laid off, and he has accepted the offer to move to India.
