Back from the Border
Maj. Jack Keen >>More
Army Maj. Jack Keen returned in January from active duty in Iraq, where he was responsible for training Iraqi soldiers along the Iraq/Iran border.
Jack took a slightly unorthodox approach to his training. For the first two weeks of his time in country, he focused solely on winning trust. From shared meals to soccer games, Jack felt that a sense of camaraderie would serve the project well. He tells Dick Gordon about the relationships he made with the Iraqi soldiers, and how the team efforts have led to a better trained border patrol – one that will soon be working without American assistance.

Brian Rose
Archeologist Brian Rose is also just back from Iraq. He's spent the last few years training American military personnel about the antiquities they'll encounter and the fragile historical sites they might be protecting - but until this recent trip, Brian had never seen these things himself.
He tells Dick what a thrill it was to see up-close some of the objects he's long been teaching about from a textbook. And he shares his perspective on how well Iraq has survived the war.
