MILITARY SKINHEADS

Earlier this summer, the Southern Poverty Law Center published a report about racist extremists in the US military. In that report, the Law Center quoted a Department of Defense investigator who believes that thousands of soldiers in the Army alone are involved in extremist and gang activity. Dick talks to TJ Leyden (pictured) who was once a skinhead in a Marine uniform and worked to recruit other Marines into the neo-Nazi movement.

TEACHING TOLERANCE

In addition to ringing the alarms about the resurgence of skinheads in the military, the Southern Poverty Law Center has come up with a new teaching kit. Called Teaching Tolerance, it tells the chilling story of Gerda Weissmann Klein. Gerda lost everyone in her family but survived six-years of Nazi cruelty. She was in labor camps and watched her closest friends die on a death march. Though her experience was horrifying, Gerda also remembers wonderful acts of decency and testaments to the human spirit. [Photo: Gerda Klein with Morris Dees, Co-Founder and Richard Cohen, CEO, of the Southern Poverty Law Center]
