Back to School

Rebecca RoseRebecca Rose (Laurie Johnson Photography)

More than a million people drop out of high school each year. Rebecca Rose was one of them. She felt stymied in math class, and by high school decided to leave. But as an adult, Rebecca learned to work through her math phobia when she took GED courses. Now she's helping others do the same. She talks with Dick Gordon about the delights of teaching, learning and enjoying the beauty of numbers.

Taste and Smell

Molly BirnbaumMolly Birnbaum

Molly Birnbaum wanted nothing more than to be a chef. But one day she went for a run and got hit by a car. Her skull was fractured and her olfactory neurons were damaged. She lost both her sense of smell and all prospects of a career in the kitchen.

Molly talks with Dick about how losing her sense of smell, and gaining it back slowly, has changed her perception of the world.
