ADHD and Me
Blake Taylor
Blake Taylor is now studying to be a doctor. But when he was little, he was one of those kids who could never seem to settle down. This was back when Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) was just beginning to be recognized and diagnosed. Blake tells Dick Gordon that even on medication, day-to-day living was tough. But his condition also enriched his life in unexpected ways. Blake's new book is ADHD & Me: What I Learned from Lighting Fires at the Dinner Table.
Blake's mom, Nadine Taylor-Barnes, joins the discussion.

Listener Follow Up: A Soldier's Parent
Lance Corporal Michael Philbrick
Michael Philbrick wrote in to The Story after hearing the show about how one soldier's dad coped with his son fighting in Iraq. In college, Michael decided to join the Marine Corps Reserves without telling his parents. Michael says hearing that show gave him a glimpse of what his parents went through in 2006 when he served in Iraq.
Michael talks with Dick about what happened when he told his parents that he signed up for the Marines and the lasting impact it has had on their relationship.
