Covering AIDS
Stephanie Nolen
Stephanie Nolen is a Canadian journalist based in South Africa. She argued with her editors to establish a bureau there so she could report on what she sees as one of the biggest and most under-reported stories in the world: HIV/AIDS in Africa.
Stephanie's new book, "28," takes its title from one estimate that 28 million people in Africa have HIV/AIDS. Stephanie talks with Dick Gordon about the 28 people from different classes and countries throughout Africa whom she profiles in the book. She also talks about the more personal conversations she has with friends around her dinner table in Johannesburg - a city where 1 in 3 people are HIV positive.
