Matt never knew much about him, but he was always fascinated with his grandfather. About all he knew was that Paul died as a young man after serving in World War II, and that his grandmother, Julia, never remarried.

Then Matt came into possession of letters Paul had written to Julia between 1943 and 1945.

Matt, who had spent the previous few years on the road as a musician, was electrified with the idea of making an album based on the letters. The result is "There's No Love in This War."

Matt Arbogast

Dick Gordon talks with Matt, also known as The Gunshy, about what the letters taught him about his family - and how his grandmother reacted when she heard his record for the first time.

See one of Paul's letters

Learn about Matt's music

Contact Us

Run Granny Run

Doris "Granny D" Haddock

When she was 90, Doris "Granny D" Haddock walked across the country to lobby for campaign finance reform. She became an instant hero, but that walk was nothing compared to her 2004 run for the US Senate - at age 94.

Dick Gordon talks with a still feisty Doris, her son Jim (who at age 69 served as her road manager), and Marlo Poras, who made a film about the unlikely campaign called "Run Granny Run." The film premiered last night on HBO.

Learn more about Granny D

Learn about the filmmaker

Contact Us
