CHILDHOOD OBESITY
Shaun Goode and his grandmother, Deborah
Nearly a third of children in the United States are overweight.
Shaun Goode fits into another category - kids who are so obese, they risk damaging their hearts and livers, and even becoming diabetic.
Since January, Shaun has been working on two things - changing what he eats, and getting exercise. And he is finding success. He has lost several sizes and 12 pounds.
His caregivers have also found success - his grandmother has lost 25 pounds, and his grandfather shed 46.
Mark Piel
Dick Gordon talks with Shaun and his primary caretaker, his grandmother Deborah, about how the family is getting healthy.
Dick also talks to the head of an innovative new program for childhood obesity, Dr. Mark Piehl. Mark treats children when their obesity becomes life-threatening.

Tough Job - Shelter Veterinarian
Jennifer Doll
Jennifer Doll works at an animal rescue shelter in Iowa City. She says it's a tough job, but it's not the barking and meowing pets that give her the blues - it's the owners.
She has taken many animals who were abandoned or mistreated by their owners into her home, including cats, emus and a bear she kept in her garage.
Jasmine, a cat at Jennifer's shelter
Dick Gordon talks to Jennifer about the ups and downs of caring for abandoned animals before they are euthanized.
