To Lee's horror, her mother just happened to read the essay. All she said to Lee was, "You write very well." </p><p>Later on, when Lee's mother discovered that she was about to appear in print again as a central character in Lee's new memoir, "The Things Between Us," she asked her daughter, "Do I come off better in this one?" Lee Montgomery's mother has now passed away. As has her father.
