TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLPARK

Kim Ng

Kim Ng grew up playing stickball on the streets of Queens, NY and is now one of the most powerful women in baseball. She is vice president and assistant general manager of the L.A. Dodgers.

Dick Gordon talks to Kim from her office at Dodger Town. It's the end of spring training in Florida, and the Dodgers are preparing for their opening game for the season.

I open my office door out to the terrace and I can hear batting practice go on. Every once in a while someone will hit a ball up here on the terrace and the fans will go nuts. It's just a lot of fun.
- Kim Ng

Kim talks to a player, credit: CBS

Kim talks to Dick about what it takes to get a team ready for the season -- and during their conversation, she actually carries out a trade: pitcher Elmer Dessens for outfielder Brady Clark.

Kim was the first woman in major league history to interview for a general manager's position -- with the Dodgers in 2005. Prior to her job with the Dodgers, Kim was with the Yankees, where she collected three World Series rings.

Read a history of the Dodgers

Visit the Dodgers' site

Add to story

FUN FUN FUN

Earlier this week, Dick Gordon talked to music documentary producer, Joe Vella. Joe had been interviewing people who played with John Coltrane for a new documentary podcast series.

Joe works with lots of musicians: Pat Metheny and Yo-Yo Ma among them. And he's just back from a week with, as he puts it, "the great Brian Wilson" of the Beach Boys. His series includes commentary by Brian and other members of the band about their Pet Sounds album, considered by many to be one of the greatest pop albums ever recorded.

Joe shares never-before-heard studio recording tracks, and stories from his time with the legendary band.

Read a blog about the Pet Sounds project

Find out more about the Pet Sounds album

Hear Dick's conversation with Joe Vella about John Coltrane

Add to story
