Exonerated by DNA

Over the last 5 years, the state of Texas has proven 12 people innocent by DNA testing.

James Waller

This month, James Waller officially became part of that group when he was exonerated of raping a child in 1982. The evidence that convicted him: the victim said James's voice sounded like that of the rapist. It took 24 years before the verdict was finally overturned.

Dick Gordon talks to James about how he remained sane serving time for a crime he did not commit. James says his family never treated him differently because he was flagged as a sex offender. However, he was heart-broken when the court prohibited him from being around his nieces and nephews.

I served 10 years, 11 months and 3 days in prison. Every year the parole board asked me, "Do you feel remorse for the crime?" I always said, "No. I can't feel remorse for a crime I did not commit".
-James Waller

See some of James Waller's pictures

Read about James Waller's Case

Learn about the Innocence Project

Add to story

JOHN COLTRANE - THE MUSIC AND THE MAN

Joe Vella

Joe Vella has spent the last year interviewing people who played with John Coltrane and those who heard him play.
