RIDING THROUGH THE CUCKOO'S NEST

Megan 1Megan Timothy

Megan Timothy has led a full life. She was born in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, and moved to the United States at age twenty-one.

Since then, she's been a Playboy bunny, a B-movie actress, a gardener and a screenwriter. But three years ago, at the age of sixty, her life fell apart. Her brain, as she puts it, exploded.

She had suffered something similar to a stroke. Her mind was clear, but nobody could understand what she was trying to say.

This adventure of mine was fun in a way. This journey was such a fantastic internal journey for me. A lot of my journeys are external, because I like the physical as well as the mental. But this was my first totally internal journey because I could not go. I was stuck. I have learned so much.

Megan's physical journey did not end at the hospital. It has taken her across the United States on, of all things, a bicycle.

Dick talks with Renee Zimmerman about her experience in the hospital for routine surgery. She expected to wake up from anesthesia in twenty-four hours. Instead, she woke up three months later.
