DEYANIRA IN MEXICO
Deyanira Chavez
The issue of immigration is back in the news. Two Senators have introduced a reform act that would allow those without papers to stay in the U.S. For years, people like Deyanira Chavez have placed all their hope in bills like that one. Dick Gordon first met Deyanira in June 2008. Deyanira had been able to attend one year of architecture school in the U.S. before her immigration status made it impossible to continue. When Dick spoke with Deyanira, she was waiting to see Congress pass the Dream Act. A few months ago, Deyanira stopped hoping and waiting: she returned to Mexico, where she’s now enrolled in architecture school.

OPEN MIC: PADDLE BOARDING
Last week on the program, Dick talked with a husband and wife who run a kayak polo operation. Their team was fresh from the U.S. National competition. At that time we asked listeners to tell us about a favorite sport that they have to explain to people. A listener in South Florida called in to tell about her new addiction to paddle boarding.
YOUR STORY: OVERCOMING FEAR OF HEIGHTS
Until recently, Debbie Breeling has had a serious fear of heights. Even so, she decided to enter a contest. The prize was a chance to rappel down the outside wall of the second tallest building in Omaha. She won. And once she got to the event, there was no turning back.
PERSONAL POLITICS 2010

We leave the answers to those questions to the analysts, but today we’re inviting listeners to join us in our occasional series about what is “Personal in Politics”.
