Selma Constant
Selma Yablonick Constant graduated from the City College of New York in 1950. Her class will host its 60th reunion in May. To mark the occasion, graduates were asked to recall their most memorable experience at CCNY. When Selma sat down to write, she realized her most memorable day was also her saddest. It was the day she was asked to leave the school of education because she walked with a cane. Selma had polio as a kid. Despite her high marks, Selma was considered disabled. She was forced to transfer and give up her dream of becoming a teacher.

Paul Guest's Body of Poetry
Paul Guest
Paul Guest is an accomplished poet who has a number of books to his name. He's out this month with a memoir called One More Theory About Happiness. Paul's recent writings have focused on a pivotal moment in his youth, a bicycle accident that broke his neck and left him paralyzed. Paul talks with Dick about how he took on the challenge of writing about his disability - and others' reactions to disability - in his poems. This story originally aired on April 28, 2009.
