Surviving a TSUNAMI

Adam PinkertAdam Pinkert

Adam Pinkert has visited Chile numerous times. It's his wife's homeland. Last month, as part of a longer visit, Adam and his brother-in-law decided to go scuba diving. They headed to Robinson Crusoe island, a sparsely-populated eco tourist spot, what Adam calls "the Galapagos of Chile." On their fifth day there, they awoke in the middle of the night to rumbling and rising water coming into their third floor hotel room. Adam tells Dick Gordon about his escape from the tsunami that destroyed the village of 700 people and the island's only town.

'When Larry Whitlow hears about tsunami warnings like the one following the recent earthquake in Chile, he can't help remembering the terrifying experience he had after the Indonesian quake in December 2004. He was in the water in a kayak at the time, and barely escaped after being 'swallowed by the wave.' Larry talks with Dick about that day and how it dramatically changed what he did next in his life.
