AFTER THE WAR
Ahmed Fadaam has been The Story’s connection to Baghdad for the past five years. He introduced us to his family and his neighborhood. He was a professor of fine art and left Iraq after receiving a death threat. He’s now back in Baghdad and taking a hard look at what it takes to build a country and make it safe for his family.
- Listen to more of our conversations with Ahmed
- See images from his new graphic novel and listen to a web-only clip about his work.
ZARQAWI’S ICE CREAM
Andrew Goldsmith believes in heroes, and met a lot of them as a nineteen-year-old infantry soldier in Iraq. They didn't necessarily win medals, but they did ride patrol everyday in Iraq. He wrote about his experiences in a self published memoir, Zarqawi’s Ice Cream. He includes maps, diagrams and snippets of conversations which capture the absurdity and intensity of war.
Music in this program: Selections from Anouar Braham including The Lover of Beirut; First Breath After Coma, Explosions in the Sky; Suicslide, Slide to Freedom
