Drugs and the Border
Bryan Gonzalez is a former New Mexico border patrol agent. He often spoke with the migrants he caught trying to cross the border, and often heard stories of people trying to escape the violence surrounding the drug trade. He began to learn more about the issues of drugs, and when he began to voice his thoughts on the subject, he was fired. Bryan joins Dick Gordon to talk about his experiences on the border. He's still not sure why he lost his job. Music: Hobo’s Crossing, Beppe Gambetta

Richard Rodriguez is a poet whose work focuses on the search for family and a place to begin again. He reads from his piece, "Proofs." Music: Dr. Guevara, Alberto Iglesias
Losing Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated 43 years ago today. In 1968, Duane VanderBrug was a white minister living in a black Chicago neighborhood. When the riots broke out after the announcement of MLK's death, Duane and his family stayed. Five days later, when Doctor King was buried, Duane led a funeral service for a young black man who’d been killed in Vietnam. Music: Oh Freedom, Dominique Fochard
