Unemployed? Don't apply.
Kelly Wiedemer lost her job in the financial sector at the start of the recession almost three years ago. She says the problem now is that she has been out of work for so long, many employers won’t even give her resume a second look. Kelly says the one thing that has changed is that she’s become a lot more politically involved - she’s started writing and she’s determined to speak up on behalf of people who are being ignored because they’ve been out of work. Civil War Widows
One-hundred-fifty years ago, the first shots were fired on Fort Sumter, S.C., sparking the start of the U.S. Civil War. In 1998, there were still two women living who had married former soldiers from the Civil War. Daisy Anderson and Alberta Martin were young when they married and the men were much older. The Artilleryman's Vision

Newspapers by Hand
Civil War journalist John McLean Harrington hand-copied seven different newspapers for his 100 or so readers during the war. His story is told by Michael Ray Smith in the book "A Free Press in Freehand, The Spirit of American Blogging in the Handwritten Newspapers of John McLean Harrington, 1858-1869."
