Unemployed? Don't apply.
Kelly Wiedemer lost her job in the financial sector at the start of the recession almost three years ago. She says the problem now is that she has been out of work for so long, many employers won’t even give her resume a second look. Kelly says the one thing that has changed is that she’s become a lot more politically involved - she’s started writing and she’s determined to speak up on behalf of people who are being ignored because they’ve been out of work. Music: Flint, Sufjan Stevens
Civil War Widows
One-hundred-fifty years ago, the first shots were fired on Fort Sumter, S.C., sparking the start of the U.S. Civil War. Before Daisy and Alberta died, producer Joe Richman worked with Radio Diaries to document their stories. Music: Lorena, J.P. and Annadeene Fraley; Aura Lee, Mary McPartlan
The Artilleryman's Vision
Through the years artists and writers have tried to capture the essence of the war and its aftermath. Walt Whitman wrote "The Artilleryman’s Vision." In the poem, the war is long over, but the memories linger. Music: Battle Cry of Freedom, Jaqueline Schwab
