TAKING THE KEYS
For the next two days, our program will bring you stories from Detroit. First: If you’re in Detroit, and if you’re one of the tens of thousands turning the keys back to the bank, Al Clawson might be last person you’ll meet. He is a home forecloser, and has worked on some of the more than 200,000 homes in Michigan which have slipped into foreclosure in the past 18 months.
100 ABANDONED HOUSES
Drive through certain neighborhoods in Detroit and there are houses with boarded up windows and trees growing through walls. Story producer Phoebe Judge speaks with photographer Kevin Bauman, a Detroit native, about his recent project, 100 Abandoned Houses.
WORK IN PROGRESS
Detroit is in many ways an example of what America once was. It is often examined as a symbol of the enormous shift in America, away from factories and steel. The question is: where is it going? Producer Zak Rosen talks with auto worker Gloria Lowe (pictured) and others in Detroit about the new culture they see emerging and how they are shaping it.
Music in this program: All Blues, Ron Carter; To Thee this Night I Will No Requiem Raise, Donnacha Costella
